Privacy policy

How BOTD handles booking, contact, and account data.

Builders of the Desert collects only the information needed to operate public tours, answer inquiries, maintain visitor accounts, and communicate about BOTD programming.

Last updated April 25, 2026

Information BOTD collects

BOTD may collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, booking details, pricing selections, dashboard profile preferences, and inquiry messages. If you submit oral history material or archival content, BOTD may also collect the descriptive information needed to review and respond to that submission.

Payment card details are handled by BOTD's payment provider. BOTD does not store raw credit card numbers.

How BOTD uses that information

BOTD uses collected data to:

  • confirm and manage public tour bookings
  • respond to contact messages, partnership requests, and private tour inquiries
  • maintain visitor accounts, booking history, and route progress
  • send operational notices such as confirmations, scheduling updates, or cancellations
  • send newsletters, promotions, and new public-tour announcements only when a visitor has opted into marketing email
  • review oral history and archival submissions relevant to BOTD programming

Email choices

Booking confirmations, 24-hour tour reminders, check-in access notices, safety updates, account verification, and refund or reschedule notices are transactional or relationship messages tied to a reservation or account.

Newsletters, promotions, and new public-tour announcements require marketing opt-in. Marketing emails include unsubscribe instructions, and account holders can also update marketing choices from their profile.

How data is stored and shared

BOTD works with trusted account, payment, and email providers to operate the site, process reservations, and send confirmations or administrative notices.

BOTD does not sell visitor data. Information is shared only with service providers needed to operate the website and communicate with participants, or when disclosure is required by law.

Youth and oral history submissions

BOTD programming includes youth-oriented tours. Parents, guardians, educators, and group organizers should avoid submitting unnecessary sensitive personal information for minors through the website.

If you submit oral histories, photographs, or documents, BOTD may contact you to confirm permission, authorship, and any reuse restrictions before using those materials in tours, public history work, or future exhibits.
